GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman – Behind 18 points from Gabby Reynolds and 14 from Emma Theodorsson, the George Washington women's basketball team secured an 81-67 victory over Charlotte, improving the team's record to 3-5 on the season.
The Revolutionaries started hot on the offensive end, posting 24 points and shooting 8-11 from the floor. Reynolds led the way, going 3-3 overall and 2-2 from deep, posting eight points. The 49ers shot just 8-19 in the first stanza, equating to a 24-18 lead for the Buff & Blue.
Offense was a bit harder to come by in the second, as both teams shot well below 50%, and neither managed to hit a shot from beyond the arc. The Buff & Blue still managed to outscore Charlotte, 14-10, to take a 38-28 lead into the halftime break.
After Charlotte outscored GW 21-18 in the third, the Buff & Blue held a seven-point lead heading to the fourth, identical to the advantage the team held in yesterday's loss to Miami. The Revolutionaries didn't relinquish this lead, aided by Theodorsson's 10 points in the fourth quarter, securing the 81-67 win.
Following the contest, Reynolds and Theodorsson were named the Cayman Islands Classic Players of the Game, while Reynolds was honored as an All-Tournament Team selection.
Sara Lewis and Mia James also played well for GW, posting 12 points apiece. Caia Loving was impactful again off GW's bench, posting six points and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. Kamari Sims added nine points and dished out six assists, while Jaeda Wilson chipped in six points.
GW returns to the US and will host Dayton on Wednesday for the team's first Atlantic 10 contest of the season. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. inside the Smith Center.
