Men's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds to Murray State
11/25/2025 10:43:00 PM | Men's Basketball
GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman - The margins in college basketball are often razor thin, and Tuesday night's finale in the Cayman Islands Classic proved no different as GW men's basketball took the lead with six seconds left, only to give up a full-court layup and fall to Murray State, 96-95.
The offensive back-and-forth was emblematic of the entire game that featured nine ties and 17 lead changes while both offenses shot over 50% on the day.
Trey Autry appeared to save the day for the Buff & Blue, first tying the game on an acrobatic 3-pointer with 45 seconds remaining and then pushing GW in front on a layup with 6.1 seconds remaining.
But Murray State had the answer after the timeout as Javon Jackson caught the inbounds and raced all the way up the sideline uncontested before finishing through contact to put the Racers in front with 1.2 left. A missed free throw and ensuing scramble ended the game.
Rafael Castro paced the Revolutionaries with a double-double of 26 points (7-14 FG, 12-14 FT) and 11 rebounds. Five additional players - Garrett Johnson (17), Christian Jones (14), Jean Aranguren (11), Autry (11) and Bubu Benjamin (10) - also reached double digits.
The Buff & Blue will return stateside for the Thanksgiving holiday before taking to the road again next week when it opens December with a road game at Army next Tuesday. Tip is scheduled for 11 a.m. with live coverage on ESPN+.
