Volleyball Set for Three Matches at Home, Traveling to Georgetown for Alumni Weekend

WASHINGTON-Â For the third week of non-conference play, the GW Volleyball team will welcome Hampton, Rider, and IU Indianapolis to the Charles E. Smith Center and will travel across the District to face Georgetown. The Revolutionaries will face Hampton Tuesday for a 6 p.m. first serve.Â

GDUB will open the weekend up against Rider at 11 a.m. Friday and face IU Indianapolis at 6 p.m. GW will then travel to Georgetown for a 4 p.m. matchup on Saturday. This upcoming weekend of action will also serve as the program's alumni weekend.  All four matches will also be available to stream on ESPN+.Â

The Buff & Blue went 2-1 at the Eastern Michigan Tournament, defeating both Oakland and EMU on Friday while falling to Marshall on Saturday in four sets. Leading the offense once again was senior Salem Yohannes, who swung behind a .279 hitting percentage and put up 45 kills across the three matches. Yohannes' season-long performance on offense currently puts her fourth on the conference leaderboard for kills.Â

First-year Taylor Treahy has also made an immediate impact in her first season in the Buff & Blue. Over the weekend, Treahy earned 37 kills and registered nine blocks at the net. Graduate student Reilly Heinrich earned the libero spot in all three weekend matches, tallying 55 digs.Â

ON THE OPPONENTS

The Hampton Pirates travel to the Smith Center seeking their first win of the 2024 campaign. The Pirates are headlined by senior Ada Bulgar, who leads the squad in kills (23) and has 24 digs across their six matches. Setter Morgan Warren has captained the offense with 70 assists. The Pirates arrive to GW after facing both American and Georgetown in Washington this past weekend.Â

Rider enters the weekend 1-5 and is set to face Georgetown Friday evening after the 11 a.m. matchup with GW. The Broncs are led by both Paige Giehtbrock and Kiannisha Santiago, who lead the team in kills at 51 apiece. On defense, Simone Langford averages 3.42 digs/set, and Molly Rhode and Santiago also lead the team at the net with nine blocks each.Â

IU Indy is also set to face Georgetown, facing the Hoyas at 11 a.m. before traveling to the Smith Center for the evening contest. The Jags sit 3-4 after two weeks of play and are led on offense by Ellie Patterson with 92 kills, and three other offensive threats have 40-plus kills on the year. Patterson has also registered 65 digs this season.Â

The Hoyas enter the weekend matchups with a 4-2 record, most recently collecting wins against Alabama A&M, North Texas, and Hampton. After six matches, first-year Dionna Mitchell leads the Georgetown offense with 77 kills, averaging 3.85/set. Emily Wen has registered 174 assists across just six matches, while Karis Park has collected 84 digs at libero.Â
