Revolutionaries Battle Against the Herd, Falling 3-1

Ypsilanti, Mich. – In their third and final match of the EMU tournament, the GW volleyball team fell to the Marshall Thundering Herd, 1-3, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the GW Revs finish the tournament 2-1.
BY THE NUMBERS
Leading the Revolutionaries' offense was senior Salem Yohannes, who tallied 15 kills and 15 digs for a double-double. Behind Yohannes, first-years Cayla Cogan and Taylor Treahy registered nine kills apiece. Fueling the offense were setters Dilara Elmacıoğlu and Abby Markworth, dishing 38 assists collectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first, the Herd claimed the momentum early, gaining a swift advantage over GW. Marshall claimed the first stanza, 25-15.
The second featured a substantial trade of points between the two squads. However, the Herd did not relinquish their lead throughout the second, claiming another set victory, 25-17.
In set three, early points were once again exchanged, with a tie reached at six apiece. Following the tie, the Revolutionaries claimed the lead off kills from Kelsey Watkins and Cianna Tejada at the net. A kill from first-year Cayla Cogan gave the Revolutionaries the advantage over the Herd, and the momentum shifted. The GW Revs put together an offensive scoring run to claim the third, 25-23.
Playing to four, Marshall once again claimed a lead early in the set. GW fought back, but its efforts ultimately fell short in a 25-19 Herd victory.

The Revolutionaries will return to action on Tuesday, September 10 as they take on Hampton at 6 p.m. in the Smith Center.
