Women’s Soccer Earns Draw in 2024 Season-Opener

WASHINGTON – Behind a 40th minute goal from first-year Selah Koleth, the George Washington women's soccer team earned a 1-1 draw against DMV foe American on Thursday afternoon to open the 2024 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 40th Minute: GW's Selah Koleth recorded her first collegiate goal, lofting a right-footed shot over the outstretched arm of American's goalkeeper to tally the score. Assisting on the play was sophomore Rose Vigran for her first point of the season.
- 45th Minute: Just five minutes later, American tallied the equalizer off the foot of Bella Vozar. Vozar received a cross from Olivia Simmons and managed to squeeze the shot just inside the right post for the score.
NOTEWORTHY
- The matched marked head coach Jeremy Williams' first at the helm of the program. Williams will seek his first win in Sunday's match against Binghamton.
- Senior Ainsley Lumpe tallied four saves in net for GW. She faced 14 total shots from American with five being on-goal.
- GW registered 11 shots in the match, two of which came off the foot of Koleth. Senior Amelia Booth also recorded two shots for the Buff & Blue as well. Just two of GW's shots were on frame in the match.
- The Revolutionaries finished with a slim 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
- Booth was issued a yellow card in the 90th minute of the match, her first of the season.
