WASHINGTON — The George Washington men's basketball team will take part in the 25th annual U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, it was announced on Tuesday. The tournament will take place on the island of St. Thomas at the University of Virgin Islands Elridge Blake Sports and Fitness Center from November 22-25.
GW will open the three-game event with a primetime matchup against Kansas State on Friday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. ET. The two sides will be meeting for the sixth time overall and for the first time since the 2017 Las Vegas Invitational. The Wildcats, out of the Big 12, went 19-15 (8-10) a year ago and advanced to the NIT.
Depending on the result of the opening contest, GW will face either Louisiana or Liberty on Saturday, Nov. 23 (following a loss) or Sunday, Nov. 24 (following a win). Regardless of the opponent, it will be the first matchup in program history. Louisiana is coming off a 19-14 (10-8) campaign in the Sun Belt last year and is a year removed from making the NCAA Tournament in 2023. Liberty is in its second year in Conference USA and went 18-14 (7-9) a year ago.
The other side of the bracket, against which GW will square off with one team on Monday, Nov. 25, features three NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago in conference champions Longwood (Big South), UAB (American) and McNeese (Southland). Illinois State out of the Missouri Valley rounds out the field.
All games for the tournament will be streamed on ESPN's national broadcasting platform.
