PHILADELPHIA – Led by Paige Mott's second double-double in as many games, the George Washington women's basketball team picked up a 65-54 victory over La Salle, securing the team's first Atlantic 10 victory of the 2024-25 season. GW moves to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while La Salle drops to 7-8 overall and 1-1 in conference.
Sara Lewis gave GW's offense an early spark in the contest, scoring eight of the team's 20 points in the first 10 minutes. Lewis, who finished the contest with eight points, also grabbed eight boards in the contest. Her early offense was enough to give the Revolutionaries a 20-15 lead following the opening frame, setting the tone for what would be a stellar second quarter for the Buff & Blue.
GW's defense was the story of the second frame, holding La Salle to just seven points in the stanza and limiting the Explorers to 21% shooting from the floor. GW posted 13 points of its own in the second, growing its advantage to 33-22 at the halftime break. First-year Gabby Reynolds gave GW a huge jolt offensively, putting up eight points, and outscoring La Salle on her own.
The second half was dominated by Mott, as the Philly native recorded 14 of her game-high 18 points in the final 20 minutes. Mott, who set new GW career bests last week against Hampton with 16 points and 14 rebounds, followed it up with an 18-point, 10-rebound day to fuel the win. Mott also chipped in four assists and recorded three blocks, stuffing the stat sheet. To make the homecoming even more special, Mott's fourth rebound of the day was a milestone, giving her 500 for her career. The fifth-year tallied 431 boards during her four-year tenure at Northwestern and has recorded 75 with GW thus far.
Also contributing in a big way offensively was graduate Makayla Andrews, who continues to lead the team in scoring this season. The fifth-year finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. The contest marked the seventh time this season GW has had at least three players get into double figures, and the Buff & Blue move to a stellar 40-9 overall against La Salle all-time.
The Revolutionaries return to action next Sunday, continuing A-10 play against Loyola Chicago. Tip-off inside the Smith Center is set for 12:00 p.m., with live coverage available on ESPN+.
