Three-Point Shooting Sparks GW to 77-64 Win vs. VMI

WASHINGTON - After a 2-1 trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands prior to Thanksgiving, GW was guarded against a letdown in its return home in a Black Friday matinee against VMI. The Revolutionaries brought some of the island heat home to DC and scorched the nets from behind the 3-point arc in the first half, burying 7-of-14 threes in the opening stanza to build a 13-point halftime lead en route to the 77-64 runaway win against the visiting Keydets.
While eight GW Revs found their way into the scoring column in the first 20 minutes, it was Delaware-transfer Gerald Drumgoole Jr. who provided the spark with his exquisite shooting. Connecting on 3-of-4 threes before intermission, Drumgoole found his sweet spot with the corner shot, while also contributing to a team distribution-effort with his two early assists as part of a George Washington offense that assisted on 14 of 17 first-half field goals.
The second was more of the same as the lead grew to 22 at its largest and GW finished with 25 assists on 30 made field goals, the most for the program in regulation time since Feb. 21, 2018.
Do-it-all All-Conference performer Darren Buchanan Jr. went on to lead the way with game-highs of 17 points and six assists, while also pulling down four rebounds.
Trey Autry continued his fine play, settling into a bench-scoring role as near-instant offense when he checks in. Finding his way into double-figures with 15 points, the sophomore needed only seven nine to get there, connecting on 4-of-7 triple tries.
After playing four games in the last eight days, GW now gets a five-day break in game action. The team returns to the court on Wednesday, December 4 at American's Bender Arena with tip-time against the Eagles coming at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
