Volleyball Drops to Loyola Chicago in Four in Series Opener

WASHINGTON - Despite a second set victory, the GW volleyball program fell to Loyola Chicago in a tightly contested four set match on Friday evening.
BY THE NUMBERS
Senior Salem Yohannes fueled the GW attack on Friday evening with 18 kills, while setter Dilara Elmacıoğlu's registered 24 assists. Junior Cianna Tejada put down nine kills while registering two blocks at the net, alongside Sydney Stewart's three blocks. At libero, Reilly Heinrich picked up 18 digs to lead the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first, Loyola out-swung GW by a narrow margin of 16-13. The Revolutionaries tied the score six times and caused two lead fluctuations, but the Ramblers claimed the first stanza, 25-23.
Coming out in the second, the Buff & Blue immediately flipped the momentum, not allowing Loyola any leads or ties throughout the frame. Putting down 16 kills as a team, the Revolutionaries edged out the Ramblers 25-20.
The third was a tightly contested affair, with the GW Revs getting ahead early, but Loyola Chicago quickly responded. The two conference opponents tied the score 11 times before Loyola claimed the set at 25-23.
In the fourth, GW struggled to take Loyola's momentum, despite two ties. Loyola eventually put down 14 kills to outlast the Revolutionaries, 25-15.
GW will conclude the series and its regular season campaign tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Smith Center before turning its attention to the A-10 Championship tournament. Tomorrow also marks GW volleyball's Senior Day, as the program celebrates the accomplishments of Kelsey Watkins, Reilly Heinrich, Brittany Myers, Grace Allread, MC Daubendiek and Salem Yohannes.
