Volleyball Rolls Past Rams in Series Opener

WASHINGTON - In dominating fashion, GW volleyball defeated the Fordham Rams in four sets on Friday evening, 25-7, 22-25, 25-14, 25-17.
BY THE NUMBERS
As a team, the Revolutionaries had incredible offensive efficiency, swinging over .400 in two of the four sets. Senior Salem Yohannes once again headlined the GW offense, tallying 16 kills over the course of the evening and swinging a .500 hitting percentage. First-year Taylor Treahy recorded a double-double on Friday evening, clocking 11 kills and 13 digs. On defense, Reilly Heinrich contributed 19 digs, while Sydney Stewart registered two blocks at the net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GW found its advantage over the Rams early, claiming the first set swiftly, 25-7. The first was also the most efficient for GDUB, with the team clocking a .464 hitting percentage across 13 kills.
The second stanza was a back-and-forth affair, featuring nine tied scores and six lead changes. Despite GW re-claiming the lead from the Rams on numerous occasions, Fordham claimed the second, 22-25.
In the third, the GW Revs once again claimed the lead over Fordham early in the set, 5-2. After two quick lead changes, the Revolutionaries battled back to claim the third sequence, 25-14.
The fourth set saw GW once again claim an early lead at 12-4. Despite the Rams calling timeouts and minor ebbs in the game, GW stepped out to win the match, 25-17.
UP NEXT
GW will return to action tomorrow afternoon against the Rams for the series finale at 2 p.m. in the Smith Center. The match will also be streamed on ESPN+.
