Richmond, Va. - The GW volleyball team fell to the VCU Rams Saturday evening in three sets inside the Siegel Center.
BY THE NUMBERS
First-year Taylor Treahy proved to be GW's most efficient hitter Saturday, putting down nine kills behind a .300 hitting percentage. Following behind Treahy was senior MC Daubendiek, who registered six kills. Libero Penelope Hiepler tallied 11 digs, while Loukia Papadakos and Cianna Tejada each chipped in two blocks at middle blocker.
HOW IT HAPPENED
To open the match, VCU went on a swift 3-0 run to jump ahead of GW. The Buff & Blue would work to respond, but were unable to equal the Rams, leading to VCU sealing the opening frame at 25-16.
In the second, the Rams struck first, but GW would work off a 4-0 scoring run to tie it up at 10 apiece and eventually claim the lead over VCU. With an additional three tied scores and three lead changes, GW fought hard to maintain control of the set, but the Rams eventually claimed the frame at 25-19.
In the third, the Revolutionaries were able to tie the score with the Rams three times but struggled to find consistency. VCU pulled ahead to claim a match victory at 25-13.
The Buff & Blue will now turn its attention to a three-match home stint next week. The Revolutionaries will return to action Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside the Smith Center as they face the George Mason Patriots to conclude the Revolutionary Rivalry series, prior to hosting Saint Louis next weekend.
