Volleyball Drops Series with No. 21 Dayton

Dayton, Ohio - Despite a narrow battle, the GW Revs dropped the final matchup of the series with the Dayton Flyers on Saturday afternoon.
BY THE NUMBERS
First-year Taylor Treahy fueled the GW offense with nine kills, and Salem Yohannes, Cianna Tejada and MC Daubendiek each followed with five. Sydney Stewart remained vigilant at the net, tallying five blocks, while at libero, Amina Robinson chipped in 13 digs. Setters Abby Markworth and Dilara Elmacıoğlu combined for 23 assists as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the opening set, the Flyers rattled off three straight points to begin the stanza. GW would respond, tying the set at 10 apiece. With four additional tied scores, and GW claiming the lead at 15-14, the Flyers went on a 10-point scoring run to claim the first, 25-17.
The Buff & Blue opened up ahead in the second, with Dilara Elmacıoğlu scoring a service ace to bring GW out to a 5-3 lead. The remainder of the set was back-and-forth, with the set staying tied three times, but the Flyers took the second at 25-20.
The third also proved itself to be a narrow start, with GW reaching a tie with the Flyers five times before either team reached 10 points. The Buff & Blue held a 12-9 lead over the Flyers, forcing a Dayton timeout. Dayton eventually tied it up at 13 apiece, and went on a 5-0 scoring run to extend the lead. The Revolutionaries responded with a 3-0 run, forcing a Flyers timeout. Off the timeout, the Flyers went on a final scoring run to seal the match 25-21 and conclude the series.
UP NEXT
GW will now turn its attention to a road series with VCU next Friday and Saturday. Both matches will take place in Richmond, Va. at 6 p.m.
