Women’s Soccer Drops A-10 Opener at UMass

AMHERST, Ma. – The George Washington women's soccer team fell 2-0 at UMass on Thursday afternoon. The match marked the start of Atlantic 10 action for both programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 4th Minute: UMass jumped on top quickly in the first half off a goal from Grace Pinkus. The goal was Pinkus' third of the year and was assisted by Bella Recinos.
- 7th Minute: The Minutewomen doubled their lead in the seventh minute when Ashley Lamond tallied her fourth goal of the year. Assisting on the play was Recinos, her second of the day.
NOTEWORTHY
- UMass finished the match with a 12-7 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in shots-on-goal.
- Both teams tallied two corner kicks on the day.
- The Minutewomen amassed 13 fouls, while GW finished with nine fouls.
- No yellow yards were issued during the contest.
- Graduate student Rose Hemans earned the start in net for GW. She tallied one save for the Buff & Blue and allowed two goals. Junior Ainsley Lumpe played the entire second half in net for the Revolutionaries, facing six shots and not allowing a goal in 45 minutes of play.
- The match marked Lumpe's first action since GW's season-opening win against Delaware State. Lumpe has a clean sheet in 80 total minutes of play in the 2023 season.
- Offensively, sophomore Aoi Kataoka led the attack with two shots. Sophomore Isabel Kelly and junior Abby Mansoor each tallied one shot on goal.
- GW's two shots on goal are the lowest for a single match this season. It also marks the program's fewest shots on goal since Oct. 16, 2022, when the Buff & Blue only put one shot on target, also coming against UMass.
