The spring of 2023 brought more hard-earned academic success to GW's student-athletes, with the university's 20 NCAA teams and 400 student-athletes achieving a 3.44 GPA in the recently completed semester.
In the spring, 82% of GW student-athletes had a GPA above 3.0 and 100% of teams had a cume of 3.0 or better. Moreover, greater than 50% of student-athletes had a semester GPA above 3.5, while 48 notched a perfect 4.0. Women's tennis and women's swimming & diving were the top performing teams in the classroom, with a 3.86 GPA and 3.67 GPA respectively.
On GW's 18 teams that compete in the Atlantic 10, 263 student-athletes were named to the A-10 Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2022-23 academic year, by virtue of having a combined fall and spring semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
These impressive numbers come after a standout fall in which GW Athletics posted a GPA of 3.37 and 75 percent of GW's student-athlete population achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher, including 30 with a perfect 4.0 in the first semester.
The tremendous success in the classroom, where GW's student-athletes outpace their student peers, was made possible by the life-changing work of GW's distinguished Faculty and staff, the Department of Athletics' commitment to higher education, and the efforts of the Educational Support Services unit - which is guided by Senior Associate Athletics Director Danya Ellman, led by James Hellekjaer, and assisted by Stephen McNamara, Natalie Ellard and Joe Strickland.
