Shanes, Dinneen Named to A-10 Women’s Cross Country All-Rookie Team

WASHINGTON – Following a breakout season, first-years Julia Shanes and Lola Dinneen have been named to the Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country All-Rookie Team, the conference announced on Friday. GW has now placed at least one runner on the A-10 All-Rookie Team in three-straight seasons following Sarah Mitchell's selection in 2022 and Olivia Syftestad's nomination in 2021.
Shanes, a native of Rumson, New Jersey, kickstarted her collegiate career with multiple solid showings in GW's early competitions. Shanes tallied first place at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals, registering a PR time of 18:42.70 for the gold. Shanes also raced well at the A-10 Championships, finishing with a 6K time of 21:56.64 to place 26th overall. To cap-off her season, Shanes went out in style, setting a new 6K PR with a mark of 21:16.1 at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional for 57th.
Dinneen, a native of Staten Island, Ney York, also started her collegiate career off strong, finishing fifth at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals with a PR time of 18:57.92. Dinneen cracked the top 30 at the A-10 Championships with a 22:08.09, placing her in 29th and leading GW to a second-place team finish. Along with Shanes, Dinneen also set a new 6K PR at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals, clocking a 21:36.5 for 82nd-place overall.
