
Volleyball Welcomes VCU for Final Home Matches of 2023

WASHINGTON – The George Washington volleyball team welcomes VCU to the Smith Center on Saturday and Sunday for the final pair of home matches this season. Saturday's match is slated for 4 p.m., while Sunday's Senior Day matchup is set for 2 p.m. Both matches will be carried live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, GW hosted 18th-ranked and conference-leading Dayton for a pair of matches. The Flyers proved to be a formidable task, dispatching the Buff & Blue in straight sets both matches. The wins propelled Dayton to 14-0 in conference play and 25-2 overall with just four matches left this season.
Leading GW in two matches against Dayton was junior Salem Yohannes who tallied 19 total kills. Along with Yohannes, junior Brittany Myers recorded 11 kills, while senior Liv Womble chipped in seven. Defensively, GW was led by sophomore Amina Robinson who logged 20 digs. Senior Elizabeth Drelling also notched 12 digs for the Revolutionaries.
SENIOR DAY
Sunday's match against VCU will mark Senior Day for the Buff & Blue. Prior to the match, the three senior members of the volleyball team - Womble, Markella Lanara and Drelling - will be honored for their academic and athletic accomplishments. First serve is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon with senior day festivities coming roughly 10 minutes prior to the start of the match.
A-10 STANDINGS
With four conference matches left this season, the race for the A-10 Championship is heating up. As of November 2, Dayton remains the top seed with an undefeated conference record. The Flyers are followed by Loyola Chicago (12-2), VCU (11-3), Davidson (8-6), Fordham (6-8) and Saint Louis (6-8). Sitting below the threshold to make the A-10 Championship is Duquesne (5-9), GW (4-10), George Mason (3-11) and Rhode Island (1-13). The Revolutionaries sit two matches back from the final spot postseason spot, making the upcoming weekend with VCU vital in their quest for the A-10 Championship.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
VCU travels north to the DMV with an overall record of 14-10 and a conference mark of 11-3 this season. The Rams are led by Jasmine Knight with 237 total kills on the season. Knight averages 2.63 kills per set and has a team-leading .347 hitting percentage on the year. Knight is also the team leader in blocks this season, accumulating 104 on the year. Along with Knight, Parker Hartzell has also contributed in a big way to VCU's offense. Hartzell has 218 kills this season, averaging 2.45 kills per set on the year. Hartzell has a .259 hitting percentage and has 46 blocks this season.
Defensively, VCU is paced by Anja Kujundzic with 434 total digs. Kujundzic averages 4.82 digs per set and also boasts a team-high 29 service aces. Kujundzic headlines a group of five Rams with at least 150 figs this season including Kialah Jefferson (221), Ana Brangioni (221), AnnaBelle Tomei (153) and Taylor Aguano (150).
