HOW IT HAPPENED
The Revolutionaries held a consistent lead from the opening point of the match, putting down 13 kills on 22 attempts in the first set to hit a match-high .455%. Leading 23-16, GW silenced a comeback attempt from George Mason, who went on a five-point scoring run before a Daubendiek kill and a Mason attack error helped GW to the 1-0 set advantage.
GW was limited to eight kills in set two, while George Mason put down 14 to even the match at one set apiece. In set three, GW was out-hit again, this time held to nine kills and seven errors, with George Mason comfortably taking set three to go ahead 2-1 in the match.

With Womble serving, GW went on a 8-0 scoring run to take an early 11-5 lead. GW continued to lead until 24-19 before Mason staved off five set points, pushing the set into extra points, with ties at 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30. A kill from Wiczek and a Patriot error forced the fifth and final set.
The Revolutionaries rattled off four-straight points to open the final frame, but Mason matched the home team's tempo with four points of their own to even the set at 4-4. From there came seven ties before GW was able to earn the 19-17 victory.
