WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's soccer team (4-9-4, 2-5-1 A-10) concluded the 2023 season in style, downing rival George Mason (5-7-3, 2-5-1 A-10), 3-1, on both Senior Day and Alumni Day at the GW Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon. The Buff and Blue scored all three goals in a span of four minutes and 17 seconds early in the first half, stunning the Patriots who were only able to fight back with one goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
14th Minute: Will Turner attempted a cross into the box, which deflected to George Mason's goalkeeper, who punched the ball back in the direction of Turner. Turner took one touch with his chest to settle the ball before beating the goalkeeper on the near side with his shot. The goal was unassisted.
17th Minute: Tim Neumann and George Vincent found themselves on a 2v2 fast break. Vincent passed the ball to a streaking Neumann, who split the George Mason defenders with his run before beating the goalkeeper to the near side with his shot. Vincent was credited with the assist.
18th Minute: Neumann and Vincent connected again just moments later as Neumann's cross floated just over a George Mason defender and right to Vincent, who volleyed the cross out of mid-air and into the side netting. Neumann earned an assist on the play.
29th Minute: George Mason got one back when Henry Wachsman scored his third goal of the year on a curling shot from the top of the 18-yard box. Asparuh Slavov and Souley Diouf assisted on the play.
