WASHINGTON – Sitting squarely in the race for the Atlantic 10 Championship, the George Washington volleyball team travels to the Bronx this weekend for a pair of matches against Fordham. GW will battle the Rams on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Buff & Blue hosted Duquesne last weekend, splitting a pair of matches inside the Smith Center. In Friday's thrilling five-set win, GW saw multiple players set new career highs. Senior Liv Womble and junior Salem Yohannes both recorded career-highs in kills. Womble finished with 23 kills on the day to lead GW, while Yohannes recorded 22. Sophomore Maeve Loughran also got into the action, dishing out a career-best 51 assists for the Buff & Blue. The weekend split gives GW a 6-2 record at home this season.
RACE TO THE A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP
With nine matches left in the regular season, GW is in the middle of the race to the A-10 Championship. As of Oct. 19, the Buff & Blue are tied with three other teams in the conference standings with a record of 4-5. Davidson, Duquesne, Saint Louis, and GW currently occupy seeds 4-7; while Dayton (9-0), VCU (8-1), and Loyola Chicago (7-2) are above the field as the current top three teams. The top six teams in the standings at the end of the season advance to the A-10 Championship, meaning GW is right on the cut line for the tournament half-way through conference play.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
Fordham (12-7, 3-6 A-10) enters the weekend one win behind GW in the conference standings. The Rams are coming off a tough trip to Saint Louis that resulted in a pair of five-set losses at the hands of the Billikens. Fordham is led by Whitley Moody who averages a team-high 3.7 kills/set which is second-best in the conference. Moody has 255 kills on the season and boasts a hitting percentage of .215 thus far. Audrey Brown is also playing well for the Rams, averaging 3.39 kills/set with 237 kills on the season. Also contributing to the offense is setter Whitney Woodrow who dishes out 8.84 assists/set, third-most in the A-10.
