The Buff & Blue on the road again Sunday at Davidson
DAYTON, Ohio – George Washington women's soccer was unable to contain the dominant Dayton attack on Thursday, falling 6-0 at Baujan Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
18th Minute: Laney Huber opened the scoring for Dayton when she curled a right-footed strike past GW goalkeeper Grace Crowe from 10 yards out. Dayton's opening goal was assisted by Alicia Donley.
53rd minute: Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Dayton made it a two-goal game thanks to A-10 leading scorer Itala Gemelli's ninth goal of the season. Gemelli was set up by teammate Marlee Taylor.
56th Minute: Just three minutes later, Jessica Sheldon found the back of the net for Dayton. Donley tallied another helper on Dayton's third goal.
59th Minute: Diana Benigno scored the Flyers' fourth goal of the game off a strike from just outside the penalty area.
60th Minute: Laney Huber tallied her second of the game to extend the Flyers' lead to five. Taylor registered her second assist of the night on the goal.
74th Minute: Junior Mia Perri put the final touches on Dayton's victory with her second goal of the season.
NOTEWORTHY:
• Goalkeeper Rose Hemans saw her first minutes in Buff & Blue on Thursday.
• Rachel Sorkenn and Tori Minda were tied for the team lead in shots with two.
• GW's six goals against were its most conceded in a game this season.
• GW's defense faced a season-high 21 shots on Thursday.
