Spencer Bystrom & Jamie Doak will compete at Zone A Championships
Beginning Monday, GW divers Spencer Bystrom and Jamie Doak will be in action at the NCAA Zone A Championships, aiming to qualify for the national meet.
The Buff and Blue pair will compete on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards at Navy's Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md. This will be the fifth time in six seasons that the program has been represented at the NCAA regional qualifying meet.
Doak will make her debut at the Zone meet in her first full collegiate campaign. The junior from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, advanced to the championship finals on both boards at the A-10 Championship before landing a pair of fourth-place finishes to help the Buff and Blue women secure their second team title in three years.
In the season opener, Doak broke the 1-meter program record dating back to 2001 and later beat that mark with a career-best score of 279.23 at Pittsburgh on Nov. 5. She qualified for the Zone meet on the 3-meter board with a season-best score of 282.75 at the Duke Dog Invite.
Zone A will send its top five women and four men on each board to the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center will host both national meets in the coming weeks, with the women's competition from March 16-19 and the men's from March 23-26.
