Tip-off between the Colonials and Bonnies is slated for Saturday at 2 p.m.
WASHINGTON - After pocketing its first conference victory at Duquesne, GW women's basketball will look to win back-to-back A-10 games when it returns to Foggy Bottom to host its annual Pink Game on Saturday afternoon. The Colonials will welcome St. Bonaventure for a 2 p.m. tip at the Smith Center.
All fans attending are encouraged to wear pink and will receive a free rally towel. The Colonials will also be donning special pink-accented uniforms for the occasion.
DEFENSE WILL WIN US THE GAME
In GW's victory against Duquesne on Wednesday night, the defense was the star of the show. GW held the Dukes to just 14 field goals on 23 percent shooting, both season lows for Duquesne. Additionally, the Dukes' 48 points were the team's lowest in a game since its season opener, when it scored just 39.
Individually, GW locked down the Dukes' two best players throughout Wednesday night. Both Fatou Pouye and Tess Myers entered the contest averaging more than 12 points a game, but when the dust settled, the Colonials held the duo to a combined nine points on just three field goals.
SMITH CENTER STRETCH
Following four straight games on the road, GW returns to the Charles E. Smith Center for a stretch that will include three home games over the next five days.
The Buff & Blue's homestand will begin with Saturday's contest against St. Bonaventure, before facing Saint Louis on Valentine's Day for a make-up of January's game against the Billikens that was postponed due to health and safety protocols. Finally, GW will face off with George Mason on Wednesday, February 16, in the second leg of this year's Revolutionary Rivalry. Tickets for all GW women's basketball home games can be purchased here.
ON GAMEDAY WE WEAR PINK
When GW takes the court on Saturday against St. Bonaventure, they'll do so rocking new pink accented jerseys courtesy of adidas. In addition to the color's association with the fight against cancer, over the last decade, it has also been a harbinger of success for the Colonials. Since 2012, GW boasts an impressive 9-1 record in its annual pink game, including winning seven straight contests between 2012 and 2018.
LAST TIME AGAINST THE BONNIES
Saturday will mark the second meeting this season between GW and St. Bonaventure, with the first match-up being played just 10 days earlier in Olean, NY. In the contest, St. Bonaventure came away with a 50-49 victory against GW thanks to a pair of clutch free-throws by Asianae Johnson.
The game against the Bonnies also served as a springboard for first-year Maxine Engel. In one of the more dominant games by a Colonial this season, Engel dropped 19 points on 80 percent shooting, while also hauling in seven rebounds and registering two steals. Since that contest, Engel has started in back-to-back games for GW.
All fans attending are encouraged to wear pink and will receive a free rally towel. The Colonials will also be donning special pink-accented uniforms for the occasion.
