Nya Robertson scores career-high 27 points on Monday
WASHINGTON – Fueled by a 50 percent shooting performance and the offensive coming out party of first-year Nya Roberston, George Washington women's basketball coasted to victory, 83-62, over Howard on Monday night from Burr Gymnasium.
From the moment that the clock started in the Shaw Neighborhood of Washington, D.C., the Buff & Blue's offense looked to be in elite form. GW buried 11 shots in the opening quarter, including four triples, to find itself up 26-17 after one. GW would continue its sharpshooting ways in the second quarter, and behind an eight-point frame from Asjah Inniss, GDUB walked into the locker room up 43-28.
However, Howard refused to back down and started the third quarter on a 10-0 run that chipped the GW lead down to five. The Buff & Blue didn't break though, and instead looked to the scoring touch of Robertson to help regain its footing. Showing closing ability well beyond her class year, Robertson came alive with 17 second half points and GW finished off their city rivals.
Robertson finished the night with a career-high 27 points as the first GW player to have at least 27 points in a game since Alexandra Maund accomplished the feat in Feb. 2020.
In addition to Robertson, Inniss and Mia Lakstigala also scored in double digits on Monday night. GW also had 10 total players find the score sheet against the Bison.
Up next, GW will look to sweep its local foes on the road when it travels to American University on Thursday, Nov. 17th. Tip-off between GW and the Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m.
