Sorkenn scores 21st career goal in win
WASHINGTON – On the day that GW women's soccer honored its alumnae, Rachel Sorkenn continued her climb up the program's all-time goal scoring list. Sorkenn scored her 21st career goal less than two minutes into Sunday's contest and that was all GW would need in its 1-0 win over Chicago State
HOW IT HAPPENED:
2nd Minute: Following a beautiful cross from teammate Lauren Prentice, Sorkenn beat Cougars' goalkeeper Alexa Seiler one-on-one for the game's lone goal. The strike was Sorkenn's eighth of the season and the assist was Prentice's second of the year.
NOTEWORTHY:
•Sorkenn's goal ties her with GW Hall of Famer and current Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel for eighth on the program's all-time goal scoring list.
•With her next goal, Sorkenn will tie Lisa Zifcak for seventh all-time.
•Sorkenn tallied four shots on Sunday afternoon. She now has a team-leading 41 shots this season.
•GW's defense smothered the Chicago State attack, holding the Cougars to just one total shot.
•The Buff & Blue dominated almost every statistical category, including shots, 15-1, shots on goal, 8-0, and corner kicks, 3-0.
UP NEXT:
George Washington will resume A-10 play when it welcomes St. Bonaventure to GW Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.
