Women's Soccer Prepares for Two A-10 Battles

GW will face off against St. Bonventure and UMass this week
WASHINGTON – Following a pair of non-conference victories last week, George Washington women's soccer will kick off the second half of its A-10 slate with a pair of games at The Vern. The action gets underway on Thursday when GW welcomes in St. Bonaventure for a 3 p.m. kickoff. Then on Sunday, GW will host UMass for a 1 p.m. matchup. Both games can be seen on ESPN+.

Rachel Sorkenn scored less than two minutes into GW's game against Chicago State, and that was all the Buff & Blue would need to close out the 1-0 victory. Sorkenn's goal was her eighth of the campaign and 21st of her career.

With a pair of games this week, Sorkenn will have a chance to continue her climb up George Washington's all-time goal scoring list. The River Edge, N.J. native's next goal will be the 22nd of her career, which would move her into a tie for seventh all-time with Lisa Zifcak. Additionally, if Sorkenn can score two goals this week she will move into a tie with Beth Rife for sixth all-time.

St. Bonaventure enters Thursday's contest as the last place team in the conference standings at 2-6-6 and 0-6-1 in A-10 play. In its most recent game, St. Bonaventure fell 2-1 at Rhode Island. The Bonnies' leading scorer this season is first-year sensation Ami Komori. The Otsu, Japan native leads the team in goals (3) and points (8) and has been named A-10 Rookie of the Week twice this season.

Entering this week, UMass is 4-6-5 on the season and 3-2-2 in conference play. The Minutewomen's offense is led by Lauren Bonavita, whose nine goals are third-most in the A-10. Additionally, Bonavita's 18 points and 22 shots on goal are fourth most in the A-10.
