Myers leads GW offense with 19 kills
FAIRFAX, Va. – GW volleyball won three straight sets to earn a five-set victory at George Mason on Tuesday night, 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-13.Â
BY THE NUMBERSÂ
Brittany Myers led the GW attack with 19 kills against just four errors for a .417 hitting percentage. MC Daubendiek recorded a career-high with 14 kills behind a .267 efficiency. Salem Yohannes and Liv Womble added 11 kills apiece to a GW offense that tallied 64 kills. Yohannes recorded her first double-double of the season, adding 13 digs to her 11 kills. The outside hitter also led the team with five service aces.
Grace Allread tallied 30 helpers, and Dilara Elmacioglu added 20 assists. Amina Robinson made the start at libero, tallying 16 digs. Tierra Porter made seven stops at the net and Myers added six blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
After falling behind 3-0 to begin the match, GW pulled ahead at 10-6 and would maintain its lead until the Patriots tied set one at 19. The home team regained control at 21-20 and would allow just two more GW points before taking set one 25-22.
20 ties came in set two, but Mason managed to pull away at the end to take a 2-0 set advantage. GW tallied 15 kills in the second frame behind a .256 efficiency.
GW remained errorless offensively to begin set two, tallying 11 kills on 18 attempts, helping to a commanding 20-10 lead. Mason went on a six-point scoring run before a GW side-out. GW faced four set-points before putting set three away, 25-23.
After three ties started set four, the Buff & Blue sketched a 13-7 lead. The momentum continued for the visitors, who extended their lead to 22-15. Mason pulled within five at 18-23, forcing a GW timeout. Out of the brief break, a GW block and a kill from Womble helped clinch the fourth-set victory.
Seven ties highlighted the final set before an ace from Amina Robinson put GW ahead at 14-13. Mason was called for an in-the-net violation to lift GW to its fifth five-set victory of the season.

GW will host Saint Louis for a pair of matches this weekend, with a 6 p.m. match on Friday and a 2 p.m. start on Saturday. Both games will be available on ESPN+.
