Women’s Soccer Travels to Delaware State for Non-Conference Tilt

The Buff & Blue and Hornets will get underway Wednesday at 6 p.m.
WASHINGTON – George Washington women's soccer takes a quick break from A-10 play this week when it travels to Dover, Del., to face off with the Delaware State Hornets. Kickoff between the two sides is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
LAST TIME OUT:
The Buff & Blue gained a hard-fought point on Sunday, battling Davidson to a 0-0 draw. Goalkeeper Ainsley Lumpe faced seven shots on her way to the clean sheet, while forward Rachel Sorkenn tallied her eighth straight game with at least two shots.
CLEAN SHEET SEASON:
Following its shutout against the Wildcats, GW now has five team clean sheets in its 12 games and the Buff & Blue's .417 shutout percentage is ranked in the top 100 nationally. The Buff & Blue's five shutouts are its most in a season since the Spring 2021 campaign. The last time that GW had six team clean sheets in a season was in 2018.
SCOUTING THE HORNETS:
Delaware State heads into its matchup with GW still searching for its first win of 2022. Entering Wednesday, the Hornets are 0-11 and have been outscored by their opponents 43-4. Geligne Franklin will lead the Hornets' attack on Wednesday night. Currently, the senior has two goals and four points in 11 games.
HISTORY AGAINST HORNETS:
Wednesday will mark the eighth meeting all-time between George Washington and Delaware State, and the Buff & Blue will enter the match-up with a perfect 7-0 record. In the two teams' last meeting in March of 2021, George Washington throttled Delaware State, 7-0. Both Sorkenn and Tori Minda scored a brace during that contest.
