Myers led GW offense with 16 kills
WASHINGTON – GW volleyball earned a 3-1 win over George Mason on Tuesday, 25-19, 20-25, 26-24, 25-12. It's the second win over the Patriots for GW this season, as the Buff & Blue move to 7-5 in A-10 action.
BY THE NUMBERS
Brittany Myers led the GW offense with 16 kills and Salem Yohannes added 12. Dilara Elmacioglu helped feed a productive GW offense with 23 assists and Grace Allread added 18. As a team, the Buff & Blue put down 46 kills to swing for .280 on the night. Allread added a match-high four service aces and Markella Lanara and Amina Robinson each tallied three. As a team, GW tallied a season-high 14 aces.
Defensively, Tierra Porter came up with four blocks and Bella Bowman scooped up 15 digs. Allread added 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Boosted by an errorless opening set, GW put down 15 kills and hit for .556% to dominate the opening frame. Four-straight kills and a Mason error helped the Buff & Blue to a 12-8 advantage, a lead they wouldn't cease for the remainder of the set.
The Patriots took control in set two, taking advantage of eight GW attack errors to out-hit its opponent .257 to .075 to even the match at one set apiece.
Despite Mason's early offensive efficiency in set three, GW stormed back from an 18-13 deficit, sparked by back-to-back service aces from Bowman. GW outscored the Patriots 7-3 to take the one-set lead heading into the fourth stanza.
Ten George Mason attack errors in set four and a .316 hitting percentage for GW highlighted the final set. GW jumped to a 12-4 lead and never looked back to finish off its Revolutionary Rival on home court.
