Kelly Poole nets second of the season in effort
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Junior Kelly Poole scored her second goal of the year, but George Washington women's soccer was unable to hold off the Saint Joseph's attack, falling 3-1 to the Hawks on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Minute – Nicole Angelini opened the scoring for the Hawks just 61 seconds into the game after she redirected a shot into the right corner of the net. Sam Dumont picked up the assist on the cross, which came off a corner.
38th Minute – Natalie Nevins extended St. Joe's lead after she buried a goal on a penalty kick.
53rd Minute – GW was able to halve the lead thanks to Poole, who ripped a shot through the Hawks' defense and beat goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti.
57th Minute – Saint Joseph's added its insurance goal less than four minutes later when Jiselle Daniels worked her way behind the defense and fired a right-footed shot into the net.
NOTEWORTHY:
•Sorkenn led all GW players in shots (4).
•Lumpe registered five saves on Thursday night.
•GW led St. Joe's in shots, 15-14, and corner kicks, 4-2.
UP NEXT:
GW will close out the regular season against Davidson on Sunday, October 21 at 1 p.m. Before the match, George Washington will honor seven seniors as part of its Senior Day festivities.
