Rachel Sorkenn scores 22nd career goal in effort
WASHINGTON – Rachel Sorkenn staked GW women's soccer to an early lead on Sunday afternoon, but UMass rallied with two goals in the second half to take home the 2-1 win at The Vern.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
20th Minute: Sorkenn opened the scoring for the Buff & Blue when she beat UMass goalkeeper Bella Mendoza one-on-one with a right-footed shot from 10 yards out. The goal was Sorkenn's ninth of the season and the 22nd of her career. Kelly Poole picked up an assist on the goal.
74th Minute: UMass equalized after Chandler Pedolzky sped past two GW defenders and chipped a right-footed shot into the net.
76th Minute: Less than two minutes later, Nia Hislop ripped a cross into GW's penalty area and found teammate Lauren Bonavita, who deposited the ball past the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Ainsley Lumpe.
NOTEWORTHY:
• Sorkenn's latest goal moves her into a tie with Lisa Zifcak for seventh on the program's all-time goal scoring list.
• Poole's assist was the first of her career.
• Cammie Dopke recorded three shots, the most in a single game during her GW career.
• Lumpe recorded a career-high seven saves Sunday afternoon.
• UMass led the game in shots, 11-7, and shots on goal, 9-1, while GW led the way in corner opportunities, 4-3.

GW will play its final regular season road game of 2022 when it travels to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's. Kickoff is scheduled for this Thursday at 7 p.m.
