PIntel leads with 19 kills
WASHINGTON- After coming out on top in set one, the George Washington volleyball team dropped three consecutive sets, falling to Fordham 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 13-25, 22-25) on Saturday afternoon.
In set one, GW's offense came out on the attack, finding the other side of the floor 17 times, led by Sarah Pintel with six kills and Ashley Waggle with five.
Fordham came out to a strong start in set two, this time forcing GW into an early 11-3 scoring deficit. GW was able to cut the Rams lead to four, forcing a Fordham timeout. Out of the timeout and a few points back-and-forth, Fordham was able to find a rhythm outscoring GW 4-1, forcing GW to call its last timeout at 21-15.
Out of its timeout, GW went on its own 4-1 scoring run, getting within three but weren't able to close it out, dropping set two, 25-20.
Fordham jumped out to an 8-2 start in set three, calling for another battle back by GW. Fordham's 14-kill offense seemed to be the difference-maker in set three, holding GW to 13 points despite a seven-kill effort.
Point for point was the story in set four with neither GW or Fordham's lead extending past four points. GW was unable to clinch the fourth set victory, losing out on its opportunity to force a 15-point fifth set showdown.
The Buff and Blue are scheduled to travel to La Salle on Friday, March 12. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
