Buff & Blue honor three seniors prior to final home match
WASHINGTON - GW volleyball returned to action for the first time in 20 days on Friday evening and took the court against its Revolutionary Rival on Senior Night. After a strong start, the Buff & Blue were unable to keep pace and fell in four sets to George Mason (25-19, 15-25, 13-25, 11-25).
Buoyed by the excitement of returning to the court, an undermanned Buff & Blue squad came out firing in the first set to earn a 25-19 victory. GW finished the set on a 6-0 run with first-year Markella Lanara providing the exclamation point with a solo block.
The Patriots took control of the match from there and won the final three sets in convincing fashion.
GW's offense was limited to hitting .054 on the night thanks in part to 14.5 blocks from the visitors. Graduate student Ashley Waggle paced the Buff & Blue with nine kills, five digs and three blocks. In her GW debut, junior setter Lauren LaBeck flirted with a double-double by tallying 11 digs and nine assists.
Prior to the match, GW honored Waggle and seniors Callie Fauntleroy and Sydney Welch for their contributions to the program.
