Buff & Blue to host the Explorers Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at 6 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW volleyball returns to A-10 action this weekend, welcoming La Salle for two matches - Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+.
HELPING HAND: Junior setter Heather Merryman has assumed the starting role for the Buff & Blue this year after working behind one of GW's all-time greats in Jaimeson Lee the last two years. Merryman has handled the transition admirably, ranking third in the A-10 with 9.40 assists per set. She also played a critical role in the comeback win over Howard on Feb. 9 with five service aces and 33 assists.
APPROACHING HISTORY: Junior libero Bella Bowman has posted over 20 digs in each of the last two matches, averaging 4.5 per set in that span. Bowman, who is currently sixth in the A-10 with 4.05 digs per set, now sits at 967 career digs, averaging 4.36 per set in her career. She entered the season on pace for over 1,700 digs in her career, which would be the second-most in program history.
ACROSS THE NET: La Salle will be making its season debut on Friday night following a pair of weekend postponements against Temple and Fordham. The Explorers were 15-14 (8-6) a year ago and topped GW in the quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship.
Senior outside hitter Samantha Graver is the team's top returning threat after earning First Team All-Conference honors last year. She led La Salle in kills (402) and points (439) while placing second in digs (406).

BICENTENNIAL SPOTLIGHT: Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter. GW Athletics is proud to be part of the university's bicentennial celebration, honoring the historic milestone with a variety of initiatives meant to highlight the best of the Buff and Blue. Svetlana Vtyurina is the most decorated volleyball player to ever wear the Buff & Blue. A four-time standout volleyball letterwinner from 1992 through 1995, Vtyurina owns both the NCAA record for "kills" in a match (56) and in a career (3,043). She holds the distinction as the Colonials' only volleyball All-American (in 1994 by the AVCA). Her name appears in the GW volleyball record book nearly 30 times and she is the only GW student-athlete to hold all-time NCAA records in two statistical categories (career kills and single match kills.)
