Buff & Blue were tripped by Navy on Saturday evening
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - GW men's water polo had its bid for a conference title ended on Saturday night with an 11-7 defeat vs. Navy in a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Championship semifinal at Lejeune Hall.
The third-seeded Buff and Blue led early before the second-seeded Midshipmen seized momentum with a run of six straight goals and managed to keep that separation the rest of the way.
GW will close its season on Sunday at noon with a matchup vs. No. 5 Wagner in the third-place game, while Navy advances to meet top-seeded Fordham in the final.
Seeking its fifth trip to the MAWPC final in six years, GW took a lead on the opening possession of the game on a goal by Viktor Jovanovic and remained on top 2-1 after the first period thanks to a score from Andrija Sekulic.
The Midshipmen flipped the script with a 4-0 edge in the second quarter to take the lead and then added the first two goals after halftime to increase their advantage to 7-2.
The teams traded goals from there. GW edged within four goals five times over the final two quarters but could not draw any closer.
