Forward had spectacular season finale
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After leading GW men's soccer to a thrilling victory in its fall finale, Oscar Haynes Brown has been named Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week.
The graduate student from London, England, netted all four goals, including the game-winner in overtime, in a 4-3 win at St. Bonaventure on Saturday. It was his second career four-goal performance and equaled the most goals by anyone nationwide in a Division I contest this season.
Haynes Brown opened a memorable afternoon vs. the Bonnies by scoring off an assist from Sandro Weber in the 11th minute. He later converted a PK in the 48th minute and then found the net off a feed from Tim Neumann in the 61st minute before coming up clutch less than two minutes into OT with a finish off a long throw-in from Joshua Yurasits for the golden goal.
With his tremendous finish, Haynes Brown closed the campaign with nine goals, which leads the Buff and Blue and ranks tied for 26th in the nation, as well as a team-best 19 points. He now ranks seventh on the program's all-time scoring list with 31 career goals and ninth with 68 points.
It's the third career A-10 Offensive Player of the Week award for Haynes Brown, who was previously honored on Aug. 27, 2018 and Feb. 22, 2021. He was also honored Tuesday on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week for his efforts.
