Cross Country will head to Cedarville, Ohio this weekend with title hopes
WASHINGTON - GW cross country will hope to cash in their title hopes this weekend when they take part in the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday at Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio. The men will get things started with the 8k race at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 5k at 10:50 a.m.
REGULAR SEASON TO REMEMBER: Both the men's and women's teams enter Saturday's championship on the tails of one of their most dominant regular season campaigns in program history. For the women, the regular season included the team's first-ever perfect score during the Mount Saint Mary's duals, back-to-back first place team finishes to start the season and four straight races where they finished first among A-10 teams. On the men's side, the team took home first place finishes in both the Mount Saint Mary's Duals and JMU Invitational, and had six runners set new personal records during the team's final two regular season meets.
ABOUT LAST YEAR: GW will look to build off their impressive showing during the 2020-21 A-10 Championship, which saw both teams finish top five in the same year for the first time in program history. Individually, the Colonials had four All-Conference performers last year, also establishing a new program-best.
SET A NEW HIGH MARK: Both the men's and women's programs enter Saturday tied for their highest regional ranking ever, with the women coming in at No. 6 (a ranking they've now tied five times), and the men coming in at No. 11 (their fourth time tying their high water mark). For both teams, a win at the A-10 Championship could help propel them into a new high regional ranking record.
