GW Entertains UMass Wednesday on NBC Sports Washington+

The George Washington men's basketball team will play host to the Massachusetts Minutemen Wednesday night at 6 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington+ and ESPN+. The Buff and Blue will look to extend their hot A-10 start to 3-1. Last season, GW took the lone match-up in resounding fashion with a 24-point win in Amherst, which is tied for Head Coach Jamion Christian's biggest victory margin at GW along with last week's win at Fordham.
LAST TIME OUT
GW enjoyed a breakthrough performance after previously falling in all four prior games this season that were decided by less than five points. With less than :15 to play, sophomore James Bishop buried a go-ahead 3-pointer as the Buff and Blue avenged a loss from a day earlier also against Duquesne. Bishop's theatrics were set up by Jamison Battle and Matt Moyer. Battle went off for a career-high 29 points in his quest for A-10 Player of the Week, while Moyer notched his fourth double-double of the season in a 14-point, career-high 15-rebound performance.
A BATTLE FOR PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Battle and Bishop both enjoyed sterling weeks for GW last week, both of which were worthy of A-10 Player of the Week honors. Ultimately, Battle got the nod -- the first of his career -- while Bishop settled for Honor Roll status. Battle's week included a 23.3 ppg average in GW's 2-1 week, 5.0 rebounds per game and nine made 3s. Bishop, meanwhile, set a new career high with 23 points in a win at Fordham before punctuating his week with the game-winner against the Dukes.
MOYER'S MAGIC
Grad student Matt Moyer has been a Swiss Army knife for GW this season, often checking the opposition's top scorer regardless of position, while showcasing versatility on both ends of the floor. In a career-best season in Foggy Bottom, Moyer has accumulated four double-doubles in 10 games, and he's currently one of just three student-athletes in the conference averaging a double-double with career highs of 10.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
B BOYS
Bishop and Battle are breaking opposing defenses this season. The pair is the A-10's highest scoring tandem at 38.1 points per game between them, ahead of Dayton's Jalen Crutcher and Ibi Watson (35.1), Saint Louis' Javonte Perkins and Jordan Goodwin (34.7) and Davidson's Hyunjung Lee and Kellan Grady (34.1).
ALL-AROUND BATTLE
Jamison Battle ranks fourth in the A-10 in points per game (18.4) and 18th in rebounds per game (5.9). Last year's A-10 leader in 3s is showing off a multi-faceted game as a soph, and is one of just four players in the A-10 averaging at least 17.0 points and 5.5 rebounds, joining Tre Mitchell, UMass; Ryan Daly, Saint Joseph's; and Jordan Miller, George Mason. All the while, Battle is still connecting from deep as the A-10's third-leading 3-point shooter.
POINT GUARD PROWESS
James Bishop left Power 5 LSU in the offseason to play closer to home at GW. Safe to say, the move paid off. The lead guard out of Baltimore is currently second in the A-10 in both points per game (19.7) and assists per game (6.1), while his assist to turnover ratio (1.7 to 1) ranks ninth. The Charm City guard has notched 20+ points in eight of ten games he's logged for the Buff and Blue after never hitting 20+ last season at LSU. In a conference known for having some of the nation's top point guards like Dayton's Jalen Crutcher, Rhode Island's Fatts Russell and Richmond's Jacob Gilyard, Bishop has joined the ranks of grandmasters.
