Women's basketball assistant to take part in national developmental program
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball assistant coach Ganiyat Adeduntan has been chosen to take part in the prestigious 2020 TopConnect Virtual Seminar this Thursday and Friday.
Founded in 2003, TopConnect (formerly Villa 7) identifies the top basketball assistant coaches in the country and connects them with mid-major athletic directors, providing tremendous networking opportunities for both parties.
"It's truly an honor to have been selected to participate in TopConnect 2020," Adeduntan said. "I am really looking forward to hearing from successful coaches, administrators and leaders. I am eager to gain insight on best practices, ways to improve in my current role and ways to best prepare myself for the future."
Adeduntan has served as an assistant coach for the Colonials for the last three seasons and also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator. During her time with the Buff & Blue, she has helped bring in two former top-100 recruits in Ariel Stephenson and Sydney Zambrotta.
Under her guidance, GW has produced two all-conference guards in Mei-Lyn Bautista and Brianna Cummings. She also assists with scouting of opponents, community service initiatives, and compliance, in addition to overseeing student-athletes' academic progress and serving as housing liaison.
"What a great opportunity for Ganiyat to be a part of the TopConnect Virtual Seminar," said head coach Jennifer Rizzotti. "We are proud to have one of the best assistant coaches in the country on our staff. G continues to impress all those who come in contact with her both inside and outside of our University. I'm excited that she'll have a chance to learn and connect with some of the best minds in basketball and other up-and-coming assistants who are the future of our game."
TopConnect develops programming that allows top assistant coaches to hear from a wide variety of successful leaders. This year's presenters include national coach of the year, Dayton's Anthony Grant, national mid-major coach of the year, ETSU's (now Wake Forest) Steve Forbes, Hall of Fame Coach Muffet McGraw, Hall of Fame Coach and current University of Tennessee Athletic Director Phillip Fulmer and three-time NFL Coach of the Year Mike Smith.
Additional topics of discussion include a panel of ADs on what they look for in hiring a coach, the search process from the media perspective and using social media to build a personal brand.
