WASHINGTON -Â The NCAA announced Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) Public Recognition Awards today, recognizing teams across the country that finished with an APR in the top 10 percent in their sport.
GW's women's cross country, golf, gymnastics, softball, men's tennis and women's track & field teams were honored.
"Every day we see the extraordinary lengths our student-athletes go to ensure their academic success at our prestigious university," said Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. "These APR scores are reflective of that, and are illustrative of our values that our students, coaches and staff embody to support high achievement in the classroom and positive displays of discipline and excellence in all that they do."
This continues a trend in which GW Athletics has seen at least six teams earn APR Public Recognition Awards in each of the last nine years.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I athletics teams across the country. It provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Today's announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
All Division I programs' APR scores will be released publicly on May 19.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
