First-year set school record in long jump at VMI Winter Relays
WASHINGTON -Â GW indoor track & field first-year Miles Grant was named the A-10 Men's Rookie of the Week on Tuesday following his performance at the VMI Winter Relays.
Grant reset the school record in the long jump with a winning distance of 6.92m, besting his previous school-best of 6.48m set at the Terrapin Invitational in his career debut on Jan. 18. He also competed in the triple jump and high jump at VMI, finishing fourth in each event.Â
The Mint Hill, N.C., native has enjoyed a breakout start to his college career, becoming the first Colonial in program history to compete in the high jump, setting the standard with a mark of 1.86m at the Patriot Games on Jan. 25.Â
His debut in the triple jump on Saturday came in at 13.09m, just .59m behind the school mark in his first career attempt. Overall, Grant has competed in five different jumps in his freshman season, finishing no worse than seventh in any event.
