
Women’s Soccer Prepares for Pair of Home Matches

Colonials set to host Towson on Thursday, Bucknell on Sunday
KICKING OFF: The George Washington women's soccer team will wrap up its four-game homestand this week. The Colonials will first host Towson on Thursday at 1 p.m. before welcoming Bucknell to the GW Soccer Field for a 1 p.m. bout on Sunday.
WHAT A WEEK: The Buff and Blue went 1-0-1 last week, edging Liberty (3-2) on Thursday before battling Maryland to a 1-1 double-overtime draw on Sunday.
O FROM D: Defenders accounted for two of GW's three goals against Liberty. Megan McCormick registered her third career goal against the Flames, while Madi Coyne tallied her first.
SORKENN SURGE: Redshirt sophomore Rachel Sorkenn has continued to make an impact on the GW front line, recording four points in the last three games. The River Edge, New Jersey, native had assists in back-to-back contests at American and against Liberty before scoring her first goal in the Buff and Blue against the Terps. A transfer from Miami, Sorkenn has started all four contests this season and ranks tied for first on the team with 11 shots.
MACHI MAKIN' IT LOOK EASY: Keeper Tamaki Machi made a combined 15 saves last week, including a season-high eight stops against Liberty. The Tokyo, Japan, native has earned the start between the posts for all four games and boasts a 1.42 GAA.
ABOUT TOWSON: The Tigers (2-4) split their games last week, topping UMBC, 1-0, before falling to Bucknell, 2-1. GW is 5-2-0 against Towson and last faced the Tigers in 2017, defeating them 1-0.
ABOUT BUCKNELL: The Bison (2-4) travel to the District after snapping a four-game skid at Towson. Bucknell will first host Penn on Friday before facing off with the Colonials for the first time since 1980. GW came out on top in that meeting, 5-1.
ON DECK: The Colonials will make the short trip to Baltimore to face UMBC on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. before opening conference play at La Salle on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.
