Colonials set for seven home contests this fall
WASHINGTON - George Washington men's soccer unveiled its 2019 schedule Wednesday, highlighted by seven home games on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Buff and Blue's fall slate kicks off Aug. 30 at UNC Greensboro and features three clubs that advanced to last season's NCAA Tournament with road trips to Portland (Sept. 6) and Virginia (Oct. 1), and a visit from defending Atlantic 10 champion Rhode Island (Sept. 21).
Led by All-Conference forward Oscar Haynes Brown, the Colonials return 12 student-athletes who earned at least five starts in 2018, heading into their eighth season under head coach Craig Jones.

"With our first four games on the road, this group is going to be tested early," Jones said. "We will have to adapt quickly to the challenges of playing games in some very difficult places against very good competition.
"As we move through the season, we have some great matchups -- both in and out of the conference -- that will measure our progress. Our goal is to use these games against different styles of opposition to prepare for a return to the A-10 Tournament and put ourselves in position to win a championship."
Following a pair of exhibition tune-ups, GW begins the regular season with four straight road games, starting with the opener at UNCG. The Buff and Blue are at local foe American on Sept. 2 before heading across the country to face Portland, which advanced to the NCAA second round in 2018. The road stretch wraps up four days later with a Tuesday trip to Liberty.
The Colonials then play three straight on the Vern, beginning with their home debut vs. Brown on Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. They'll welcome UMBC on Sept. 17 before starting A-10 play four days later with the visit from Rhode Island for a 3 p.m. start.
GW's non-conference slate also includes a midweek trip to Villanova (Sept. 21) and a home date vs. Howard (Oct. 15), in addition to the road game at Virginia, which earned the No. 10 national seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament before advancing to the third round.
The A-10 schedule also includes visits from George Mason (Sept. 28) and Saint Joseph's (Oct. 23), plus a Senior Day matchup vs. Davidson on Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
The Colonials will travel to face conference foes St. Bonaventure (Oct. 9), Duquesne (Oct. 12) and VCU (Oct. 26) before their regular season finale on Nov. 2 at Dayton.
The top eight teams in the conference standings advance to the A-10 Championship, which begins Nov. 9 with the opening round on campus sites. The winners advance to battle for the title at Fordham University's Jack Coffey Field in Bronx, N.Y., with semifinals set for Nov. 15 and the final two days later.
