Colonials visit crosstown Bison on Saturday afternoon
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW had a break last weekend after facing off against ACC foe Virginia Tech in a tough road meet on Oct. 26.
On the men's side, Andrew Cho picked up a victory in the 100-yard backstroke (49.96 seconds) and a runner-up finish in the 200 back (1:51.6) against the nationally-ranked Hokies, while DH Hwang (1,000 free) and Moritz Fath (100 free) registered individual second-place finishes.
Jackie Torrez landed a win in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:03.88 to pace the Colonial women, and Ann Juneau continued a strong start to her sophomore season by touching second in a pair of events (200 breast, 200 IM).
FAST FATH:Â Named Most Outstanding Performer after GW's win at the 2019 A-10 Championship, Fath posted a pair of season-best times at Virginia Tech. The senior's 200 free time of 1:40.80 is the best in the conference so far this season, while his 100 free time of 45.94 seconds ranks second. He also holds the A-10's top times in the 500 free (4:35.20) and 400 IM (4:01.87) with both of those marks set at the season-opening TYR Fall Classic.
Fath collected six gold medals at last season's A-10 meet, and he owns 13 total A-10 medals, 10 of them gold, entering his final trip to the conference championships next February.
EXCELLENT ADDITION:Â A graduate transfer via Florida International, Marissa Martin was runner-up in the 1,000-yard freestyle at Virginia Tech in 10:32.40, a time that ranks fifth in the Atlantic 10 this season. Her season-best time in the 500 free of 5:03.72, posted in her GW debut on Oct. 18 at Navy, is No. 2 among conference competitors.
CALL TO THE HALL:Â It's an exciting weekend for the program with a pair of all-time greats set to be inducted into the GW Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night.
Meghan Mitchell Olson ('95) was a three-time All A-10 performer and two-time NCAA qualifier during her time in Buff and Blue, while Juan Bocanegra ('00, '04) is a former Olympian who won six individual gold medals at the A-10 Championships during his collegiate career, including four straight in the 200-yard individual medley from 1997 to 2000.
SCOUTING HOWARD:Â Most recently, the Bison battled American to a split in another District showdown on Nov. 1 with their men claiming a 139-79 victory to improve to 4-0 in dual action. The women are 2-2 in head-to-head competition this fall.
Last November, GW nabbed a convincing sweep over Howard on Senior Day at Smith Center Pool, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from Peter Nachtwey on the 3-meter diving board.
COMING UP:Â GW gears up for the three-day Queens University Fall Frenzy, which will be held Nov. 22-24 at Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
