Haukur Hilmarsson and Noah Lubin were recognized Thursday
WASHINGTON - Haukur Hilmarsson and Noah Lubin of George Washington men's soccer have been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 First Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Both Colonials advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. It's the fourth time in five years that the program has been represented on the Academic All-District squad and the second time in that span landing multiple honors.
Hilmarsson has shined in the classroom as a graduate student, earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in each of his first two semesters on campus. The Iceland native is set to graduate early with a master's degree in Applied Economics.
A midfielder/forward, Hilmarsson made 13 starts for the Colonials this fall and posted four points via a goal and two assists. His score was the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over Saint Joseph's on Oct. 23 in his final contest at GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Lubin has been the true definition of a student-athlete over his time at GW, expertly balancing his responsibilities on the field, in the classroom and in the community.
Lubin was part of the creation of the Neuroscience major at GW, and he's recorded a 3.87 GPA over his first three years on campus. The senior from New York also made time to work as a research assistant and volunteer EMT, in addition to his role as a GW SAAC representative. Last spring, he led the squad's efforts to raise money for Children's National Hospital through the GW Dance Marathon.
On the field, Lubin made the most of his first opportunity to start in the GW net this fall. The goalkeeper recorded a 1.14 goals against average with 32 saves in 10 starts, highlighted by a pair of shutouts.
Following another round of voting considering representatives from all eight districts, CoSIDA plans to announced its Academic All-America honorees early next month.
