Iott continues strong play with 12 kills
NORFOLK, Va. - GW volleyball wrapped up a busy weekend with a straight-set triumph on Monday over Norfolk State (25-17, 25-16, 25-19) to win its third straight match.
After reaching the 1,000-kill milestone on Saturday, senior Skylar Iott added to her career total with 12 kills while attacking at an efficient .276. Graduate student Caroline Sklaver contributed five kills and six blocks assists as GW racked up nine blocks on the night.
Sophomore Bella Bowman continued her strong play recently with a team-high 16 digs and authored four of the Colonials' seven aces. Overall, GW held NSU to .000 and out-dug the Spartans, 47-36.
The Colonials, who previously defeated the Spartans at the Pirate Invitational in September, were in control from the onset, finishing the first set on a five-point run to jump out to the 1-0 lead.
Another five-point spurt early in the second set, featuring two kills from Iott, gave GW a 9-3 cushion. Later in the set, the Buff & Blue ran off nine straight points with Bowman on serve to grow their lead to 18-7.
The Colonials had to fend off a push from the Spartans in the third set to finish off the match, seeing a once eight-point lead dwindle to three at 19-16. A kill from Jordan Young swung the momentum back in GW's favor as they finished off the match in straight sets.
The Buff & Blue now embark on a five-game conference road trip starting this weekend with visits to Dayton on Friday and Saint Louis on Sunday.
