No. 14 Men’s Squash Upsets No. 8 Navy

WASHINGTON – In its return to the Matthew J. Grossman Squash Court in the Lerner Health and Wellness Center, the No. 14 George Washington men's squash team played its best match of the season, upsetting No. 8 Navy, 7-2.
The Colonials came out hot to start the match, with Inaki de Larrauri and Idan Hare notching early victories for the Buff and Blue to kick off the night with a 2-1 advantage.
With the matches at the Nos. 2, 5, and 8 positions on the ladder knotted at 2-1 each in favor of GW, tension was high as Salim Khan, Juan Sebastian Laguna, and Geordie Laird aimed to strengthen the Colonials' upset bid with a win in each of their matches.
Khan was the first to come out on top, defeating Navy's Michael Kacergiz in a tight 11-7, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7 match. Laird was next, coming back from a 7-3 deficit in the final game to bring GW's advantage on the night to 4-1.
With the GW victory within reach, it was Juan Sebastian Laguna who cemented the Buff and Blue victory with his back-and-forth battle with Navy's Dylan Sweeney (12-10, 12-10, 14-12).
Mohammad Alterki and Julian Jervis also picked up wins to add to GW's 7-2 victory.
