Colonials host pair of non-conference contests next weekend
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Atakan Destici and Jack Kerwin scored three goals apiece, but George Washington men's water polo fell at No. 20 Bucknell, 13-12, in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play on Sunday afternoon.
The 15th-ranked Colonials couldn't pull out a back-and-forth battle that was tied at halftime and went down to the final whistle at Kinney Natatorium.
GW (13-5, 5-2 MAWPC) had a four-game winning streak snapped and settled for a regular season split against the Bison (13-2, 7-1) following a victory in Foggy Bottom last weekend.
Destici filled the stat sheet for the Buff and Blue, adding three assists, a steal, two field blocks and four ejections drawn. Kerwin, who also chipped in a pair of assists Sunday, has scored at least three goals in six straight games to push his career-high season total to 35.
Andras Levai posted two goals and a team-high four steals against the Bison, and Josh Yardley also scored twice, converting both of his shot attempts. Finn Lillis and Nick Schroeder scored for the Colonials, as well.
UP NEXT: GW has a pair of non-conference contests at Smith Center Pool on the schedule next weekend. The Colonials welcome Austin College on Friday night at 6 p.m. before hosting Connecticut College on Sunday at 6 p.m.
