Colonials aim to continue upward trajectory at conference meet
WASHINGTON - The GW cross country teams are set to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday morning at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va. The races will be streamed live on ESPN+.
RACE FORMAT: The women will lead things off with a 5K race at 10 a.m. The men will follow with an 8K race at 10:50 a.m.
LAST YEAR AT THE A-10: GW had one of its best performances at last year's conference championship with the men finishing a program-best third and the women placing sixth. Matt Lange and Carter Day were named all-conference on the men's side, joined by Madison Yerke on the women's side.
IN THE RANKINGS: The Colonial men enter this weekend ranked 11th in the Mid-Atlantic region poll, up three spots after their performance at the Princeton Invitational two weeks ago. The No. 11 ranking is tied for the highest in men's program history. The women, while not ranked this week, have been ranked as high as 14th this year and have earned at least one regional ranking in five straight seasons.
THE COMPETITION: GW was projected to finish fifth in both the men's and women's races in the preseason poll. On the men's side, Saint Joseph's and Duquesne are the only teams ranked higher than GW in the regional rankings. Dayton, George Mason, La Salle, Saint Louis and UMass are also ranked in their respective regions.
On the women's side, Davidson, Dayton, Duquesne, La Salle and Richmond have all garnered regional rankings.
LAST TIME OUT: GW performed well at the Princeton Invitational two weeks ago, led by sophomore Jackson Cronin on the men's side. His time of 24:47.4 was the third-fastest 8K time in program history. The women were once again led by Suzanne Dannheim, who placed 20th with a time of 21:59.3 in the 6K race.
