BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - George Washington men's soccer dropped its season opener to Binghamton, 4-0, on Friday night at Bearcats Sports Complex.
The Colonials (0-1) fell behind in the fourth minute and ceded three more goals after halftime. Chris Nkoghe, Jack Muller, Noah Luescher and Nikos Psarras scored for the Bearcats (1-0).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 4th Minute -- Nkoghe gave Binghamton an early edge when he slipped behind the defense off a pass from Luescher and converted the breakaway. (Binghamton 1, GW 0)
- 50th Minute -- Just after halftime, Muller found space in front to gather a cross from Charlie Novoth and poke a shot inside the left post. (Binghamton 2, GW 0)
- 56th Minute -- The Bearcats quickly added on with a goal from Luescher. The freshman midfielder dished off to Haris Brkovic deep in the 18-yard box before hammering home the return pass. (Binghamton 3, GW 0)
- 88th Minute -- Psarras closed the scoring late with a finish off a feed from Lucas Arzan. (Binghamton 4, GW 0)
NOTEWORTHY:
- GW threatened, including several quality chances late in the first half with the deficit at 1-0, but couldn't find a way to beat Binghamton goalkeeper Alejandro Cubillo. The Colonials put three of their 10 shots on goal.
- Thor Arne Höfs made three saves in net for GW, highlighted by a point-blank stop of Muller's header just before halftime.
- Four GW freshmen -- Saint-Louis, Simon Fitch, Brady O'Connor, and Joshua Yurasits -- earned starts in their college debut. Newcomer Peirce Williams was the first substitute into the game and logged 57 minutes.
