GW Squash Sends Six to CSA Individual Nationals

WASHINGTON - The George Washington squash program will send a total of six student-athletes, three each from the men's and women's teams, to this weekend's College Squash Association (CSA) Individual National Championships at Chelsea Pier in Stamford, Connecticut.
The No. 11 men's team will send freshman Moudy Abdel-Maksoud, sophomore Oisin Logan and junior Nicolas Valderrama while the No. 13 women's team will send senior Anna Gabriela Porras, junior Breanne Flynn and sophomore Abby Shonrock.
National individual rankings are used to seed two brackets. On the men's side, the top 16 individuals will compete for the Pool Trophy and players ranked No. 17-80 will compete for the Malloy Cup.
Abdel-Maksoud is seeded No. 22 in the tournament and will compete for the Malloy Cup. He will open the weekend against Brian Hamilton of Dickinson College.
Logan (seeded No. 35) and Valderrama (seeded No. 54) will also compete in the Malloy Cup. Logan will face Princeton's Abhimanyu Shah in the first round while Valderrama will open against Luke Willemse of Drexel.
On the women's side, players ranked in the top 16 will compete for the Ramsay Cup and players ranked No. 17-80 will be entered in the bracket for the Holleran Cup.
Porras will compete for the Ramsay Cup for the second straight season. She is seeded No. 11 overall and will open the tournament against Harvard's Kayley Leonard.
Flynn and Shonrock will both compete for the Holleran Cup. Flynn, seeded No. 20, will face Columbia's Leah Barnet in the first round while Shonrock (No. 77) will open competition against Columbia's Tanvi Khanna.
The squash program has produced one individual national champion in its history. Omar Sobhy '13 won the Malloy Cup (B-Division) at the conclusion of the 2010-11 season.
